FAQ

Eligibility & Registration

What is the minimum age requirement to participate in the OFEC Masters Series?

You must reach the age of 50 in the year of 2026 (born on or before December 31, 1976).

Can non-Malaysian residents participate in the tournament?

Yes.

Do I need a Malaysian visa to register for the events?

If you are not Malaysian you must be able to show evidence of a long-term residence pass or long-term working visa.

Is there a deadline for registering for each monthly tournament?

Generally we will remain open until all places fill, this usually happens quite fast. Once we run the draw (usually 2 days before the tournament) we will not accept new entries.

Can I register for multiple events at once or only one at a time?

We open registration for each monthly event, generally the day the current monthly event ends, so typically you will not be able to enter events for future months until the current one is completed. You can however enter XD and MD in the same month.

Team & Partner Questions

Do I need to play with the same partner in every tournament?

No, you can change partners as often as you like.

Can I switch partners between events without affecting my qualification?

Yes absolutely, your points and league position are calculated for you individually – so the more you play and win (irrespective of partner) the more points you will accumulate.

If I qualify for the Grand Finale, does my partner also need to qualify separately?

No. If you qualify for the Grand Finale, you can choose any partner to pair with you. This can be another player that qualified in the top 16 or any player that didn’t. Your qualification is entirely dependent on your individual point score.

Can I play in both Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories?

As long as you are a man – yes you can.

What happens if my partner withdraws before a tournament?

We will allow you to replace your partner free of charge any time up to the day before the event takes place.

Points & Qualification

How are points calculated for the annual league table?

The point system is explained on our Point Calculation page. Your points are accumulated individually – so you and your partner for each event will each receive the points for that event.

Do I need to compete in every monthly event to qualify for the Grand Finale?

No, you do not. Your position in the league will be based on your total points with no requirement on how many individual events you play over the year.

How many players qualify for the Grand Finale in each category?

16 players will qualify for the Grand Finale in each category. Each qualifying player can choose any player to partner in the Grand Finale (the choice of partner does not need to be another top 16 player).

What happens if there is a tie in the points standings?

In the event of a tie for 16th place, those players will join the Grand Finale but need to play “play off” games to see who features in the main draw last 16.

Are points awarded to individuals or teams?

Points are awarded on an individual basis. For instance 8 points are awarded to a monthly winner. Both individuals in the winning team will be awarded 8 points on their individual total.

Point Calculation

Win any game in a round robin match – 1 point per win. If you progress to the knockout rounds you will be awarded extra points. You do not receive points for each knockout round – you are only rewarded the points for the highest round/position you achieve:

  • Champion – receives 8 points
  • Runner up – receives 5 points
  • 3rd placing – receives 4 points
  • Qualify for SF – receives 3 points
  • Qualify for QF – 2 points

Example: a team wins 3 round robin games (3 points), then manages 3rd place (4 points) – each player’s total points will be 7 points (3 + 4).

Tournament Format & Rules

What is the match format for round robin and knockout stages?

All matches will be 15 rally, no deuce, no serve to win (unless 14–14, then it will be server to win). If the tournament is ahead of schedule the tournament director may decide to allow semi-finals, finals and the 3rd place match to be rally 21 with no deuce and no serve to win (unless 20-20 then it will be server to win).

Are there referees present during matches?

We may not have referees on court during matches, games will be player officiated.

What happens if there is a dispute during a match?

There will be a tournament director present at every event. The tournament director will resolve disputes and have the authority to force a replay on a disputed point and stay on a court to officiate a match if they deem necessary.

Are timeouts allowed during matches?

There will be no time-outs allowed – apart from in the final, where each team may take a 1-minute time-out.

What is the policy for injury timeouts?

Injury timeout is 10 minutes cumulative per team per match.

Dropout Policy

Any dropouts from the tournament after registration will not be refunded.
